LDS Church Responds to TLC Reality Show
A reality television show featuring men who experience same-sex attraction but choose to live differently has some people asking for it to be cancelled.
The TLC show, “My Husband’s Not Gay,”  shares the story of four different men who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and who choose to be with women even though they are attracted to men. Of the four men, three of them are married to a woman and the other is dating women.
Deseret News reports that the show has caused outrage among some gay advocate groups who believe that no one should have to choose to live a straight life in order to remain part of their religion.
The Church has no connection with the television show, but Church spokesman Eric Hawkins responded to the criticisms saying,
The decision for a woman and man to marry is deeply personal. While the Church does not promote marriage as a treatment method for same-sex attraction, couples who are trying to be lovingly supportive of each other while being true to their religious convictions deserve our support and respect.
The Church teaches that sexual relations should be saved for marriage and that marriage should be between one man and one woman. For more information regarding the Church’s official stance on “same-sex attraction,” visit mormonsandgays.org.
